West Coast forward Archer Reid has turned his back on interest from incoming club Tasmania to extend his contract at the Eagles until the end of 2030.

Reid, who was already contracted until the end of next year, has inked a three-year extension this week.

It is a boost for the Eagles who were in a battle with the Devils, who are cashed up and as revealed by The West Australian earlier this year had their eyes on the Victorian tall.

Reid is sidelined with a knee injury which required minor surgery last week, putting the rest of his season in doubt.

The 20-year-old has played 20 games as a promising forward-ruck since he made his debut in round one of last year, with his maiden season at the club hindered by a knee injury.

“I’m really happy to be extending my time with the club,” Reid said.

“It was an easy decision because I’ve really enjoyed being part of this group and the environment we’ve built.

“I’m excited to keep developing as a player and to continue contributing to the team’s success. I feel like we’re heading in the right direction, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.

“The support from the coaches, staff, teammates and fans has meant a lot to me.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep representing the club, and I can’t wait to get back out there and help the team achieve our goals.”

Drafted with pick No.30 in 2023, Reid is part of a promising young forward line alongside Jobe Shanahan and Jake Waterman which is crucial to the club’s rebuild.

West Coast list boss Matt Clarke said Reid’s extension reflected the club’s belief in his long-term potential.

“We are delighted to have extended Archer for a further three years beyond his contract for 2027,” Clarke said.

“Archer is an exciting developing young tall, and we were keen to secure his future at the club as he continues to build his game.

“We believe he has a bright future ahead and are thrilled to have him committed through to 2030.”

It comes after the Eagles recently extended the contracts of Reuben Ginbey, also 2030, as well as Ryan Maric and Milan Murdock (both 2028).

West Coast have several other big contract decisions to make before the end of the year with their lost swelling to 51 after the mid-season rookie draft.

The retirement of premiership forward Jamie Cripps takes one uncontracted Eagle off the table, but there are still several crucial calls to make.

That includes the future of first-round draftee Elijah Hewett who is still yet to sign on beyond this year.

Hewett’s time at the Eagles appears to be at a cross-roads, with the midfielder dropped for the second time this season after only two games back in the top side.
