In a move that surprises absolutely no one...
KPop Demon Hunter’s chart-topping earworm Golden, just won the Golden Globe for original song. So on theme as well.
Songwriter Ejae said, “As a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fill one dream to become a KPop idol and I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough.
“So I leaned on songs and music to get through it. So now I’m here as a singer and a songwriter. It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone of all ages to get through their hardship and to accept themselves.”
She ended with a piece of advice, “rejection is redirection”.

First ever podcast category winner awarded
The best podcast category is a new one this year, and despite there been a raft of eligible podcasts, the finalists were still predominantly celebrities who are regulars at the Globes anyway.
Maybe it’s not a bad thing, because the Globes has always been about famous people being glamorous.
Amy Poehler is the winner for her relatively new podcast. Also notable that she beat out ex-husband - and still a friend - Will Arnett, who was nominated in the same category with his friends Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.
She said, “This is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world and fill it with a little bit more love and laughter, and laughing with people, not at them, and we just have such a good time making it and thank you so much for letting us make more.”

Seth Rogen is still on a streak
On The Studio, there was a whole episode dedicated to a fake Golden Globes ceremony.
Taking to the stage, Seth Rogen joked, “This is so weird. We just pretended to do this, and now it’s happening.
“I thought the only way I would get to hold one is to create a whole show to give myself a fake one.”
Rogen also thanked a lot of the real-life actors who played fake versions of themselves in that faux Globes episode, including Jean Smart, Zoe Kravitz and Dave Franco - the latter two presented him with the actual Globe just seconds earlier.
What’s disappointing is that Rogen did not thank “Sal Saperstein”, the name of co-star Ike Barinholtz’s character who, in the show, is endlessly thanked as a running gag.
Rogen and The Studio have been clear favourites all awards season - and they’ve both been converting.

Adolescence’s Owen Cooper never misses
Young Adolescence star Owen Cooper continues to be a winner, taking out the top prize in the supporting actor on TV category, which is even harder because at the Globes, it combines drama, comedy and limited series.
He said, “It does not feel real, whatsoever. One incredible journey me and my family have been pop through.
“We are forever grateful for what these people have done for me and my family, but you know what started off as what I thought, ‘you know, I might be OK, I might be awful, I never know’, so I took a risk and I I went to drama classes.
“I was the only boy there, it was embarrassing, but you know, I got through it and, you know, I thought I’m I’m still very much an apprentice. I’m still learning every day, I’m still learning from the people sat in front of you.”

Noah Wyle continues his awards streak with a win for his lead role in The Pitt.
As gracious as always, he said, “I’ve been very blessed in my life. I was raised in a family that put a high priority on art, on curiosity and on service. I benefitted from incredible teachers, and I’ve received some incredible advice from some very good friends.
“I’ve been supported by an incredible wife and three great children all along the way. I’m so grateful for this.”
He finished with shouting out healthcare workers. Wyle is such a class act.

Stellan Skarsgard vindicated
Stellan Skarsgard keeps his Oscars campaign alive with this tremendous win for his brilliant performance in Sentimental Value. He was snubbed for a SAG nomination last week.
He joked about playing a bad father, and his brood of children (he’s dad to actors Alexander, Bill and Gustaf), “My children have been very educational. I’m playing a bad father, and my children have really told me what a bad father is.”
On a more serious note, he made a big plea for cinematic experiences. “I’m very happy with this because it’s a small Norwegian film, with no money for advertising or anything that gets to see the world in this way.
“And hopefully you’ll see it in the cinema, because they’re an extinct species. In a cinema where the lights go down and eventually, you share the pulse with some other people, that’s magic.
“Cinema should be seen in cinemas.”
Hopefully Netflix’s Ted Sarandos takes note, especially given Sentimental Value had an in-film dig at the streaming company as well, for not valuing the theatrical release.
What a legend.

One Battle After Another is absolutely the one to beat this awards season with Teyana Taylor picking up the best supporting actress gong, beating out Amy Madigan, who last week won a Critics Choice for the horror movie Weapons.
An emotional Taylor said in her speech, “To my tribe, my joy, my daily reminder that love is an action, not just the word, and everything I do is rooted in that truth.”
She made special to her community, adding, “Last, but most importantly, to my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softenness is not a liability. It’s not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into, our voices and matter, and our dreams deserve space.”

We’re off! Nikki Glaser is your returning host
Nikki Glaser is fronting up as host of the Golden Globes for a second year running after a successful gig last year.
She starts with roasting the Warner Bros sale as well CBS news which she called “CBS News, America’s newest place to see BS news”. It’s a ballsy joke referencing its political realignment after its acquisition by David Ellison, and considering CBS is the US broadcaster of the Golden Globes.
She had a gentle joke for George Clooney, asking him for help with her Nespresso machine.
There’s the obligatory joke at Leonardo DiCaprio’s expense. “What a career you’ve had. I mean, countless, iconic performances. You’ve worked with every great director, you’ve won three Golden Globes, an Oscar, and the most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish all of that before your girlfriend turned 30.
“Leo, I’m sorry, babe, that joke. It’s cheap. You know what? I tried not to, but, like, we don’t anything anything else you. Like, there’s nothing. Like, open up. I’m serious!”
DiCaprio smiled and giggled through it like a good sport.
Next up is Sean Penn’s turn. “Sean Penn will actually go to the places in the world that need help the most, and he will do cocaine there. And I feel like we don’t celebrate that. I did get permission to tell that joke from your best friends, Charlie Sheen and El Chapo.”
No monologue is going to be complete without a dig at Timothee Chalamet’s slender frame.
“He’s the first actor in history to have to put on muscle for a movie about ping pong. This is true, he gained over 60 ounces.”
