2024 Honda Accord: New-gen hybrid sedan cops price hike

The 2024 Honda Accord will be $3000 more expensive than its predecessor when the hybrid-only sedan arrives in Australian showrooms within the coming weeks.

Honda’s 11th-generation Accord will be its dearest yet, priced from $64,900 drive-away in its lone hybrid e:HEV RS trim.

This represents an $3000 increase on the previous-generation Accord’s VTi LX hybrid variant, which itself was $4000 more than the entry-level petrol-only model.

The new price pushes the Accord out of its traditional sub-$60,000 medium-size passenger car segment – occupied by the likes of the best-selling Toyota Camry, Mazda 6 and Skoda Octavia.

Instead, it now competes – at least on paper – in the $60,000 and above market against the likes of the Audi A4, Lexus ES and the Tesla Model 3.

The Lexus ES 300h hybrid starts at $65,540 before on-roads.

In 2023, the Honda Accord was outsold by 22 of its 24 competitors in the wider medium passenger car segment, with its 144 sales sitting ahead of just the Genesis G70 and Jaguar XE. Toyota sold 10,581 Camrys across the same period.

Powering the Honda Accord is a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine, producing 108kW of power and 182Nm of torque on its own.

The petrol engine is paired with two electric motors – a 135kW and 335Nm unit which drives the wheels, while the other charges the battery – to produce a total of 152kW, down on its predecessor’s 158kW figure.

The Accord can drive on electric-only power by activating its EV mode, with six regeneration strengths selectable through its paddles behind the steering wheel.

While the new model is underpinned by the same platform as its predecessor, its interior has scored a significant update.

It’s the first Honda to feature Google built-in with embedded Google apps available on its 12.3-inch touchscreen – up from the 8.0-inch unit it replaces.

The analogue instruments of its predecessor are gone, with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster now sitting in front of the driver, while an 11.2-inch head-up display is projected onto the inside of the windscreen.

A choice of four colours – or rather, shades – will be available, comprising Platinum White, Lunar Silver, Meteoroid Grey and Crystal Black.
