Keen netballers from across the Lower South West dusted off their uniforms on Monday night for the opening round of the Manjimup Netball Association’s 2023 season.

Taking to the courts at Manjimup Indoor Sports Pavilion, a hotly contested match between Senior Women Pool 1 sides Magic and the Magpies ensued, the fierce competition making for a great season starter.

Magic put the ball through the ring first, but an immediate response from the Magpies had the two teams go goal for goal in a fast paced first quarter, with Magpies up 16-12 by the whistle.

They managed to stretch their four-goal lead out to five during the second term (29-24), with incredible shooting accuracy from Bec Muir and Tayla East.

The third quarter was an incredible display of athleticism and shooting accuracy from both sides.

However, a quick position change for Magic due to injury saw the Magpies capitalise on the changes, increasing the margin to double figures, ending the quarter 42-32.

Despite their best efforts, Magic could not close the gap, with the Magpies notching their first win of the season 58-40.
