Edwina Bartholomew predicts Sam Armytage wedding will be ‘private, peaceful’

Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew has opened up about life as a mum after giving birth to baby Molly, and says there are exciting months ahead for her colleague Sam Armytage. A lot of words get bandied about when a woman becomes a mother and the one that Edwina Bartholomew wants to banish is the word guilt. The Sunrise Entertainment Editor returned to her role on Seven’s breakfast show last month after six months of maternity leave with daughter Molly. Bartholomew told The Saturday Telegraph while at times she’s felt like she’s “bitten off more than I can chew” when it comes to combining work with her family, she refuses to feel bad for it. “There is real narrative around guilt and I don’t really feel the guilt actually. I’m choosing not to be buy into it. I feel like I’m providing for my family and I’m setting a good example for her,” she said. “There is so many noises to being a mum and so many outside influences so I think you really just have to trust your own gut instinct and stick to what is right for your family. It doesn’t matter what other mums are doing. What you’re doing for your child is best for them.” Bartholomew returned part-time to the role on Seven’s ratings leader and said the early morning hours have been a blessing because “you can be home by 10am” but daycare was never an option. “You can’t drop a child off at 3.30 in the morning, so we’ve been fortunate to find a wonderful woman to come in and help us at 4am or 5am. She’s been great. I feel like we are more organised then when I was in charge of the house,” she said. While she jokes she feels like she’s playing catch up most days, the 36-year-old credits her “really smiley” daughter for giving her a new found confidence in the office. “I’m strangely a lot more focus and I approach things in a different way, but it’s a delicate balance because you don’t want it to do define you. It’s funny because you are still the same person you were before but you are also raising a small human.” Since she’s returned, the news cycle has been heavy however she said “the best news” has been Sam Armytage announcing her engagement to partner Richard Lavender. “I’m so excited for her. Rich is such a wonderful man. They are so alike in so many ways. Over the last year and a bit to see how happy he’s made her. I’m sure all the viewers at home can see it too. We are very excited for Sam and Rich. It’s going to be a wonderful few months!” However she adds don’t expect to hear too much information about the nuptials. “[Sam] lives a lot of her life in the spotlight and I know she wants a really private, peaceful event and I really hope she gets that.”
